Tainan City Traditional Orchestra, Bamboo Flute Musician

     Because his mother is a well-known leading female role in Taiwanese Opera, Zheng Xiong Wu has been influenced by his mother since childhood. Later, he was enlightened by Bu Deng Kuo, Yi Qiao Huang and Xing Jian Cheng, the three masters; started to learn flute playing. After becoming the official member of Tainan City Traditional Orchestra, Zheng Xiong Wu followed master Xun Fa Yu, and Ya Dai’s advice, and Jin Hui Li, the art director of the orchestra, his relentlessly teaching, and decided to continue his study in Tainan National University of the Arts. He was supervised by Professor Zhong Shen Chen. Meanwhile, Zheng Xiong Wu was very fortunate to meet master Zhen Li, the innovator of the flute new school playing, when he was the guest professor at TNNUA. With the two mentors’ tutorship, Zheng Xiong Wu’s flute playing technique has improved substantially.

 

     Zheng Xiong Wu has been continuously received invitation of performance in recent years. He went to Hangzhou to receive the mentorship from bamboo flute master Song Ting Zhao in 1990. In the meantime, he learned from master Kuo Ji Jiang and Yao An Ding from Zhejiang Kunqu Opera Troupe as well. Zheng Xiong Wu cooperated with Dong Di Records in 1991, and recorded “Chinese Music Series” volume 1 and 2. He went to Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing, in 1992, and learned from masters Ya Dai and Yong Ming Zhan. He was fortunate to receive a mentorship from master Xun Fa Yu in 1993. Zheng Xiong Wu wen to Beijing to receive the tutorship from the master of north school flute playing, Yung Ching Tseng in 1994. Later in December, he had a performance of Yung Ching Tseng’s work “Qin Chuan Chin” in Tainan Municipal Cultural Center Concert Hall. Zheng Xiong Wu had a performance of master Jin Hui Li’s work “Jiang Hu Xing”, a flute concerto in Tainan Municipal Cultural Center Concert Hall in 1997. And he went to New York, Washington D.C., Orlando, Columbus, St. Jose along with Tainan City Traditional Orchestra to have a touring performance in 1998.
