Tainan City Traditional Orchestra, Liuqin Musician

     Zi Ying Yen is from Kaohsiung, and a liuqin musician in Tainan City Traditional Orchestra currently. She was graduated from TNNUA, and her major was liuqin, and ruanxian was her sub-major. Professor Yi Qian Chen was her supervisor. Zi Ying Yen learned piano at the age of 6, and was accepted in a Chinese music class and major in liuqin when she was nine. She was enlightened by Shi Yin Xu, and has received a mentorship from Wen Pei Huang. She has been instructed by the conductor, Hui Ran Wang, and musician, Hong Yi Wang. Zin Ying Yen delivered an outstanding performance by winning numerous competitions when she was still a student. She was the liuqin champion at National Student Competition of Music in 1992, 1995, and 1997.

 

     Zi Ying Yen started her career in 1996 in southern Taiwan by being a tutor of plucked instruments in several schools at Chiayi and Tainan. She has been the player of Lan Tan Traditional Orchestra, the concert master of liuqin of Kaohsiung Chinese Orchestra (the second regiment), and the liuqin musician of Taiwan Philharmonic Chinese Orchestra. Zi Ying Yen founded a plucked instruments emsemble in 2008, and she has been a member of Contemporary Artists Ensemble since 2011, and accumulating great performing experience. She co-held with fellow classmates a concert of liuqin and pipa in 2005, and her own solo recital in 2007. She co-held concerts with ruanxian musician, Shi Yun Huang in 2009 and 2014. Zi Ying Yen performed the score of “The Garden After Rain” with Hsin Chu Youth Chinese Orchestra and Tainan City Traditional Orchestra in 2014 in Tainan. Zi Ying Yen was invited by KUOCHI Philharmonic Chinese Orchestra to deliver the first performance of “Chun Qing” in 2017, she held a solo recital in 2018 and delivered a first performance of the score “Sol Re Sol Re”.

 

     Zi Ying Yen has been gradually broadening her liuqin expertise to teaching. She has held several workshops and received a positive response. She continues exploring the performing style with diversity and sophistication. She expects that her music spirit can have a rich human consciousness and global vision. Zi Ying Yen is determined to promote and leverage the art of liuqin and ruanxian instruments.
