Born in Tainan City, Taiwan, Kao Chi graduated from the Chinese music classes of Chongxue Elementary School and Chongming Junior High School in Tainan, and completed the Seven-Year Continuous Program as well as the Master's Program in the Department of Chinese Music at Tainan National University of the Arts (TNUA). He began learning the Chinese bamboo flute at the age of nine under the guidance of Teacher Hung Ning-Hui, and subsequently studied under Wu Zheng-Xiong, Hou Guang-Yu, Chen Chung-Shen, and Liu Fu-Chi. Captivated by the expressive tone of the shakuhachi, he has also been studying Japanese shakuhachi performance under Teacher Chuang Yu-Chen since 2011.
Kao is an active young bamboo flute performer in Taiwan's music scene, known for a passionate and expressive performance style filled with dynamic vitality. He has won first place in numerous flute and xiao competitions. His musical involvement spans a wide range of genres; he has served as conductor of the Kaohsiung City Hall Choir and leader of the "Second Language" A Cappella Group. In a cappella competitions, he has earned multiple Gold Awards in Youth and Adult Divisions, as well as honors for Best Lead Vocalist and Best Jazz Interpretation, earning wide acclaim across the music community. Additionally, he served as the shakuhachi soloist for the film score Farewell, which was nominated at the Sitges Film Festival in Spain.
