Department of Chinese Music, Tainan National University of the Arts. Influenced by his mother from an early age (a renowned Taiwanese opera performer), Wu Zheng-Xiong began studying the bamboo flute under the early guidance of Kuo Pu-Teng, Huang Yi-Chiao, and Cheng Hsing-Chien. After winning a position as a professional performer in the Tainan City Chinese Orchestra, encouraged by masters Yu Xun-Fa and Dai Ya, and guided by the orchestra's artistic director Lee Chin-Hui, he decided to further his studies at Tainan National University of the Arts (TNUA). There, he studied under Professor Chen Chung-Shen and had the rare privilege of receiving direct instruction from Professor Li Zhen, founder of a new school of bamboo flute performance, during his tenure as a visiting professor at TNUA. Under their guidance, his technique advanced significantly.
In recent years, he has been in constant demand for performances and collaborative projects. In 1990, he traveled to Hangzhou, Zhejiang, to study under bamboo flute master Zhao Song-Ting, while also studying under Jiang Guo-Ji and Ding Yao-An of the Zhejiang Taiwanese Opera Troupe. In 1991, in collaboration with East Emperor Records, he recorded Volumes 1 and 2 of the "Chinese Music Romance Series." In 1992, he went to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing to advance his flute skills under Dai Ya and Zhan Yong-Ming. In 1993, he had the honor of studying under the "Magic Flute" master Yu Xun-Fa. In 1994, he traveled to Beijing to study under northern-style bamboo flute master Zeng Yong-Qing; in December of the same year, he gave the premiere performance of Zeng's work Affection for Qinchuan at the Tainan Municipal Cultural Center Performance Hall. In 1997, he premiered Lee Chin-Hui's flute concerto Wandering the Jianghu at the Tainan Municipal Cultural Center Performance Hall. In 1998, he toured the United States with the Tainan Municipal Cultural Center, performing in New York, Washington D.C., Orlando, Columbus, and San Jose.
