Born in Penghu, Hsu Hung-Yuan is a young Taiwanese Ruan player. He began his musical journey at the age of 15 under the guidance of Huang Chia-Wen, and went on to study under Yeh Shu-Chen, Professor Cheng Tsui-Ping, and Professor Chen Chung-Ching. During his studies, he also gained performance experience on the double bass, sanxian, and liuqin. As an undergraduate, he was selected as a "Small Hall Emerging Talent" by the Department of Chinese Music at Chinese Culture University. During his master's studies, he was awarded Excellence (Second Place) in the Ruan Solo (College Group A) at the New Taipei City Music Competition.
In recent years, he has organized numerous joint and solo Ruan concerts, and performed with various major orchestras across different venues. He also possesses extensive performance experience in musicals and choirs, and recently premiered his own composition at a solo concert, exploring diverse musical possibilities. His professional background includes working at Xian-Jin Chinese Music, and serving as a Zhongruan player in the Taipei Chinese Orchestra (TCO) Academy Orchestra, Plucked Strings Section Leader in the TCO Youth Orchestra, and member of the Taipei Liuqin Chamber Orchestra.
