Tzu-Ning Lai majors in Liuqin, having begun her studies under Teacher Chen Tzu-Han, followed by Liu ,Yu-Ling, Lin, Ai-Wei, and Lee, Shih-Yun, and is currently studying under Professor Chen, I-Chien. She started learning the piano at a young age under Teacher Fan, Chang-Chin and Lee, Nong-Yu. During her academic career, she also minored in Pipa and Suona under Teacher Chen, Li-Ching and Sun, Pei-Yuan, respectively. She is currently a Zhongruan player in the Tainan City Chinese Orchestra.
During her time at university, she served as concertmaster for several ensembles and actively participated in major performances and concerts, frequently performing in Liuqin and Ruan duos and ensembles. She possesses extensive collaborative and performance experience, and helped plan multiple end-of-semester showcase concerts for TNUA's Plucked Strings Ensemble, demonstrating exceptional artistic and administrative capabilities. In 2022, she served as Executive Director for the TNUA Plucked Strings Ensemble, planning and executing the special concert Nostalgia.
She has participated in numerous music competitions and won top honors both domestically and internationally. Her accolades include First Prize with Distinction in Liuqin (Senior High School Group A and College Group A) at the National Student Music Competition for the 2018 and 2022 academic years; First Prize with Distinction in Liuqin (College Group A) at the Tainan Student Music Competition for the 2020 and 2022 academic years; First Prize with Distinction in Liuqin (College Music Major Group) at the Weiwuying National Music Competition for the 2023 academic year; First Prize with Excellence in Zhongruan (College Music Major Group) at the Weiwuying National Music Competition for the 2022 and 2023 academic years; and the Gold Award in Professional Group B at the 2nd China Liuqin Art Festival Showcase in 2021.
With rich performance experience, she held solo Liuqin recitals in 2021 and 2024 at the TNUA Department of Chinese Music Concert Hall and the National Recital Hall, respectively. In 2016, she performed the Liuqin concerto Courtyard After the Rain with the TCO Junior Orchestra at Zhongshan Hall. In 2023, she performed the Liuqin concerto Singing Freely at the TNUA Department of Chinese Music "TNUA · Blooming Virtuosity" concert. In 2024, she performed the Liuqin concerto Red Cliffs with the TNUA Chinese Orchestra at the "Listening to the Stars of TNUA" Concerto Night.
