Chia-Yu Tian began her musical education at an early age, learning the piano, yangqin, and clarinet. She was introduced to the yangqin by Teacher Chi, Hsing-Ya. During her studies at Tainan National University of the Arts, she studied under Hsieh, Tsung-Hsin and Lai, Hsiu-Yi, and subsequently received guidance from renowned Chinese yangqin artists including Li, Ling-Ling, Xu, Xue-Dong, Zhang, Gao-Xiang, Wang, Se, Wang, Yu-Jue, and Yu, Hai-Ying.
In 2012, she won the Gold Award in the Professional Youth Group B (Yangqin Solo) at the 1st China Yangqin Art Festival Invitational Competition, and was invited to perform Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso as a solo artist at the closing concert of the 1st China Yangqin Art Festival at Hangzhou Arts School. In the same year, she won First Place in the Yangqin Solo (College Group A) at the Tainan Music Competition. In 2013, she achieved First Prize with Distinction in the Yangqin Solo (College Group A) at the National Student Music Competition, and held the "Deep Affection" Tian Chia-Yu Yangqin & Piano Solo Concert at the Xinying Cultural Center Performance Hall.
In 2015, she premiered the yangqin work Desert Dance with the Tainan Music Ensemble in their "Spirits on Strings" concert, and performed Rhapsody as a yangqin soloist with the Jincheng Philharmonic Youth Ensemble in "Singing Joyfully with Yangqin" at Xinying Cultural Center. In 2017, invited by Little Giant Chinese Chamber Orchestra for "Hymn to the Sun," she premiered the yangqin concerto Poetry at the National Concert Hall. That same year, invited by Tainan Music Ensemble for "Midsummer Music," she performed the flute and yangqin concerto Love of Leifeng with young dizi performer Liao Hsi-En at the Tainan Cultural Center Performance Hall. In 2018, she held the "Fluttering Wings in Radiant Dance" Tian Chia-Yu Yangqin Recital at the Xinying Cultural Center Performance Hall. In 2020, invited by Tainan Music Ensemble for "Our Island · Soaring and Burrowing," she premiered the yangqin work Playing with Fire at the Yayin Hall of National University of Tainan.
