Si-Ying Chen graduated from the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Rueil-Malmaison in France, studying under M. Bertrand Richard. During her time in France, she also studied under Jean-Edmond Bacquet, Principal Double Bassist of the Orchestre National de France, and took chamber music courses at the École Normale de Musique de Paris under M. Devy Erlih.
In 1999, she earned the Second Prize for the Higher Performance Diploma in Double Bass at the Conservatoire National de Région de Versailles. In 2002, she was awarded the Higher Performance Diploma in Double Bass with Unanimous First Prize from the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Rueil-Malmaison. Upon returning to Taiwan, she has accumulated extensive performance experience, holding solo and ensemble concerts of various scales at venues such as Eslite Bookstore, Yayin Hall, and Guiren Cultural Center.
In 2015, she held the "Dialogue of Bass" Chen Si-Ying Double Bass Ensemble Concert, featuring the double bass in both solo and accompaniment roles. Through a series of diverse performance formats including ensemble and jazz, she elevated the double bass from its traditional background role to a lead melodic instrument while overcoming the instrument's technical challenges in range and scale execution. Dedicated to musical outreach in the community, she hosted the educational lecture "Instrument Appreciation Series – The Secrets of the Double Bass" at the Tainan Cultural Center, introducing the intricacies of the instrument to the public through close-range performances and demonstrations, receiving widespread acclaim.
She previously served as an adjunct double bassist for the Tainan City Symphony Orchestra, as well as a double bass instructor for the music classes at Chiayi Chongwen Elementary School, Chiayi Junior High School, and Miaoli Gongguan Junior High School. She has also taught double bass for various orchestras, string ensembles, string classes, and Chinese orchestras in the Chiayi and Tainan regions.
She currently serves as a player in the Tainan City Tranditional Orchestra and double bass instructor for the music class at National Chiayi Senior High School.
